(I am adopting a sphynx soon and was wondering what other people thought about hairless cats. Not just the sphynx but donskoys and any other mix like bambinos, minskins, peterbalds, etc.
I love the personality of hairless breeds because they have been bred to be so domesticated and people-friendly. They run to the door when you come home not run and hide and they just sit in your lap as long as you'll let them. It is also a huge plus that they don't leave terrible cat hair all over the furniture!)

I don't have a sphynx, but they are on my list, LOL! I've got Siamese, and a Cornish Rex (all rescues). They (Sphynx/Rex/Siamese) share lots of personality characteristics, and yes, they are very people oriented cats. They are outgoing cats, and - bred right - aren't oily. That is however a trademark of a poorly bred cat, and yes there are back yard breeders out there for Sphynx as well (just not many). The other thing is that since the hairless cats don't have guard hairs on their ears, ear cleaning is a couple times a week thing. My little Rex doesn't mind, and I can clean his ears while he's curled up in my arms. It took him a while to get used to it, but as I said mine was an uncared-for rescue, and if you get yours as a kitten and get him accustomed to bathing and ear-cleaning from day 1, then it will be a non-issue for you.
They are great cats, just not for everyone. Truly beauty is in the eye of the beholder. At the last cat show I attended, I got to meet a tiger-striped Sphynx. Unique!
